How to use
Generic Viramune (Nevirapine) should be taken orally with a full glass of water, milk or soft drink. It should be taken once a day for the first 2 weeks of treatment, then twice daily thereafter. You can take this medication with or without food. Do not stay on the once daily dosis for more than 28 days.

If you are taking Generic Viramune (Nevirapine) in liquid form, shake the bottle gently before use and make sure to measure the exact dose, using a special measuring device or spoon. If you are using a dosing cup, you should rinse it with water after administration and drink all of the rinse water to make sure you have taken the full dosage.

Follow the instructions of your doctor exactly, even if they differ from the recommended dosage.

Take Generic Viramune (Nevirapine) regularly and make sure you renew your prescription on time. Do not change your dosages or medication schedule without consulting your doctor first. It is recommended that anyone who suffers from HIV or AIDS remains under strict observation of a doctor.

Overdose

If you suspect you have taken too much of this medication, you should contact your local poison control center or the emergency medical services immediately.

Missed dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose. If it is, then simply skip the missed dose and take the next regularly scheduled one. Do not attempt to double up on Generic Viramune (Nevirapine) to make up for a missed dosage.

Notes
Your doctor may require you to have regular tests and medical check-ups while taking this medication, to chart your progress and examine you for potential side effects. Make sure you do not miss any of these appointments.

Do not share Generic Viramune (Nevirapine) with others, as they may have a condition that is not effectively treated by this medication

Storage

Store Generic Viramune (Nevirapine) at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), away from heat and moisture. KEEP THIS AND ALL OTHER MEDICATION OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

Precautions
Before taking Generic Viramune (Nevirapine), inform of your medical history, especially if it includes:

• Liver problems (such as Hepatitis B or C, Cirrhosis)
• Kidney dialysis
• Lactose or galactose intolerance
• Any allergies

If you have or have had any of these conditions, your doctor may have to perform additional tests or your dosage may be altered.

Generic Viramune (Nevirapine) is classed as Pregnancy Category B by the FDA, which means it is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. However, HIV can be passed to a fetus if not treated correctly during pregnancy. Make sure you take all your medication properly if you are pregnant. Also inform your doctor before taking Generic Viramune (Nevirapine) if you are pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant during treatment.

Women suffering from HIV or AIDS should not breastfeed. Even if a baby is born without HIV, the virus may be passed to a nursing infant through breast milk.
Generic Viramune (Nevirapine) can make hormonal birth control (such as birth control pills or patches) less effective. Discuss the possibilities of non-hormonal methods of birth control (e.g. condom, diaphragm) with your doctor to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication.

Drug Interactions
Before taking Generic Viramune (Nevirapine), inform your doctor of all other medication you are currently using, including:

• Rifabutin
• Blood thinners like Warfarin
• Azole antifungals (such as Fluconazole)
• Rifamycins (such as Rifampin)
• St. John's wort
• Antiarrhythmics (such as Amiodarone)
• Certain drugs used to treat seizures (such as Carbamazepine, Clonazepam)
• Ketoconazole
• Macrolide antibiotics (such as Clarithromycin)
• Methadone
• Certain other drugs to treat HIV infection (including Protease Inhibitors such as Atazanavir, Lopinavir and Ritonavir)

The above list is not complete and other medication may interact with Generic Viramune (Nevirapine). You must tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medication you use, including vitamins, minerals, herbal products and medicines prescribed by another doctor. Do not start or stop using any medication without discussing it with your doctor first.

Potential side effects of Generic Viramune (Nevirapine) include:

• Mild nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain
• Headache, tired feeling
• Changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in the arms, legs, face, neck, breasts and waist)

Stop taking Generic Viramune (Nevirapine) and inform your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects:

• Fever
• Sore throat
• Headache with a severe blistering, peeling and red skin rash
• Nausea, stomach pain, loss of appetite
• Dark urine
• Clay-colored stools
• Jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes)
• Fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms
• Any other signs of new infection

Seek emergency medical attention if you notice any of the following signs of an allergic reaction to Generic Viramune (Nevirapine):

• Tired feeling
• Joint or muscle pain
• Muscle weakness
• Skin rash
• Bruising
• Severe tingling
• Numbness
• Mouth sores
• Trouble breathing
• Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat

This is not a full list of possible side effects associated with Generic Viramune (Nevirapine). Notify your doctor immediately if you experience any other side effects than the ones mentioned above, especially if they are bothersome.
